What is the difference between microfibre and cotton fabrics used in bedding?
Share
Microfiber sheets are made up of super thin fibers woven together to create a lightweight and comfortable sheet. Cotton is a breathable fabric made from cotton plants, making it a natural and soft option for sheets with an organic, comfortable feel.

While cotton is a natural fiber, microfiber is made from synthetic materials, typically a polyester-nylon blend. Microfiber is very fine as much as 1/100th the diameter of a human hair and about one-third the diameter of a cotton fiber.
Microfiber have a tight weave and are less likely to deteriorate with frequent washes. Cotton become softer with each wash, though they are more likely to break down given their natural fibers.

Microfiber is better suited for colder climates and people who tend to sleep cold. Cotton’s natural fibers assist in regulating temperature for a cool.
Microfiber sheets and quilt covers are easy to clean, less likely to shrink and is long lasting. Cotton's are easy to wash, however, due to the natural fibers, these will break down quicker over time.
The cost of both type of sheets and quilt covers depends on the quality of the material. Both types offer a range of costveffective options as well as high end selections depending on the thread count and weave. However, cotton sheets tend to be more expensive on average.
